ShapeGB - First use of 2D to 3D technology for a sizing survey

Select received confirmation of UK Government funding in 2017 to conduct a national sizing survey. The purpose was, given changes in people’s body shapes, to update the data on adults collected for retailers on SizeUK in 2001.

The funding was granted to use Select’s unique new 2D to 3D measurement system for data collection, with data collected using a smartphone. We secured six major retailers to co-fund the project, who collectively accounted for more than half of all clothing sold in the UK.

The project was launched in June 2018 with a major PR campaign, with retailers also directly contacting customers and using in-store promotions to help with data collection. Data was collected just from consumers using smartphones in their own homes, and was the first large-scale deployment of this new scanning and body measurement technology.
